Mel Fisher Maritime Museum

The cannons found in 1975 matched with the Atocha's manifest, which positively identified the wreck. This was a huge breaktrough for Mel Fisher and his crew. Unfortunately, a week after the discovery, the salvage vessel Northwind sank in the night and claimed the lives of Fisher's son Dirk, daughter-in-law Angel, and diver Rick Gage. It was a devastating blow to the Treasure Salvors family, but, in memory to their fallen team members, they carried on with the search.
