RADIO
AUCTION RAISES
EDUCATION
& EXHIBITION FUNDS
Thanks
to two great deejays, celebrity auctioneers, donors from
all facets of the Key West business community, and
scores of enthusiastically bidding listeners, the
Society’s recent radio auction was a resounding
success.
With
donated items ranging from tickets to a “Who-Dun-It”
mystery evening at Miss Marbles Parlour to a pair of
stunning emerald earrings from Emeralds International,
thousands of dollars were raised to benefit the
Society’s education and exhibition programs. Among the
other exciting items up for bid were several “getaway
in Paradise” Key West vacation stays, a beautiful
framed manatee print from the Wyland Collection Store,
and an “off-the-rock” escape to Orlando.
Sherry
Russo and Gary Branson, deejays from WKRY Key 93.5 FM,
worked listeners into a buying frenzy—with assistance
from on-air celebrity guests including Bill Shockley of
the Wyland Collection Store, Dilys Winn of Miss Marbles
Parlour, and Katharine Roach of the Hemingway Days
Festival. In addition, the Society’s own K.T. Budde-Jones
made a much-appreciated appearance to discuss the
programs the auction will benefit.
“We’re
extremely grateful to the individuals and businesses who
donated their goods and services, to everyone who kept
the auction running smoothly, and to the radio listeners
who supported the Society by bidding and buying,” says
director of development Melissa Kendrick.
According
to Kendrick, one of the projects the auction proceeds
may benefit is an exhibition room designed especially
for children. “We’d like to create a hands-on
history room where kids can develop a real ‘feel’
for history,” she reports.
