MEL FISHER MUSEUM ANNOUNCES DATES FOR ANNUAL "MER ACADEMY" SUMMER CAMP

The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum Summer Camp, MER ACADEMY, will be offered daily at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park for four weeks this summer – Week I – June 6-10; Week II – June 13-17; Week III – June 20-24; Week IV – July 18-22.  In addition, Family Boatbuilding in participation with Key Education will be held Saturday July 23 and Sunday July 24. This year’s Pirate Experience week will be greatly enhanced due to the participation of Pat Croce’s Pirate Soul Museum.

The guiding philosophy for Mer Academy is “learning is fun!”  Monroe County elementary school students can do water quality sampling and arts and crafts, explore area parks, become detectives through individual projects related to maritime history, archaeology, and conservation, and increase their knowledge of math and science by participating in the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum’s Mer Academy

Parents may sign up students for one to four weeks. The summer camp Core Session will commence at 10:00 AM and run through 3:00 PM. Mondays-Fridays.  Students who have completed grade levels 3rd, 4th & 5th are eligible. Class size is limited to only 20 students, so enroll today.  Scholarship assistance may be available to qualified families.

The cost of the Core Session will be $150 per week.  Please call the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum Education Department (305) 294-2633 x 20 to enroll.  An extended day may be available to accommodate parents’ work schedules.  Enrollees interested in such an extended day should indicate when calling.
