"MEET ME IN HONG KONG" THEME FOR
2002 PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS BENEFIT FOR MARITIME MUSEUM
Mark Friday, April 26, 2002 on your calendar for the next benefit for
the public art and science education programs of the Mel Fisher Maritime
Museum.
Las Vegas Casino Night 2001 was a huge success last weekend at the
Wyndham Casa Marina Resort as close to $30,000 was raised to support the
Museum's educational programs for hundreds of Monroe County youth,
kindergarten through eighth grade.
In addition, Kim Fisher, son
of Mel Fisher, presented a startled museum director, Dr. Madeleine Burnside, with a check for $100,000 for the
Museum's endowment fund. The Museum is a designated Florida culture
provider and is seeking to raise $360,000 for an endowment to be
matched with $240,000 in state funds to provide annual operating revenues for the
museum's wide range of programming. Once the museum has reached its
goal, the state will provide the museum with its portion of a 60-40 match.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Museum's endowment may contact
Lisa Petrone at 294-2633, extension 28.
The Museum has partnered with the Monroe County School District
in the 21st Century Learning program, a year-round after school and summer
program for area youth that provides stimulating art and science classes.
Funds raised at events like Casino Night and "Meet Me in Hong Kong" next
spring ensure that these programs continue to be available for our youth. |
