THE FOURTH ANNUAL FAMILY BOATBUILDING EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE JULY 22 AND 23 AT FORT ZACHARY TAYLOR STATE PARK
The fourth annual Family Boatbuilding Event will take place July 22 and 23 at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. Family Boatbuilding is organized by Key Education, Inc. in participation with Bone Island Boatworks, LLC, and Mel Fisher Maritime Museum. The nationwide event encourages people to work together to build their own, real wooden boat from a kit. The families and groups will launch their own 10-foot vessel on local Key West waters at Fort Zachary Taylor on the final day of the event.
“Families” can be made up of individuals from groups, organizations, churches and schools. The cost per boat for a group of up to five people is $800.00. Financial assistance may be available to interested participants thanks to local businesses and community members who have sponsored boats.
